What is the difference between culinary and aromatic lavender?

Culinary lavender is food-grade English lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), which is low in camphor and cleaned for cooking, so it tastes sweet and floral. Aromatic lavender is grown and handled for scent and is often lavandin (Lavandula x intermedia), which has more camphor and can taste bitter or soapy. Only use lavender sold as culinary for food and drinks.

Which of your lavender products can I eat or drink?

Products sold as culinary, such as our Dried Culinary Buds and Wilder Lavender Simple Syrup, are made for food and drinks. Essential oils, fragrance oils, sprays, sachets, aromatic buds and body care are not for eating. Always follow the product label.

What ingredients do you use?

Ingredients vary by product and are listed on each product page and label. For example, Wilder Lavender Simple Syrup is made from sugar, water and lavender, and our Lavender Salve is made with coconut oil, olive oil, beeswax, lavender essential oil, peppermint oil, rosemary oil and vitamin E. If you have allergies or sensitive skin, please read the label before use and patch test topical products.

Can I use lavender essential oil directly on my skin?

Our essential oils are concentrated. Dilute them in a carrier oil or lotion before applying to skin, keep them away from eyes and out of reach of children and pets, and do not swallow them. Follow the product label for directions.

Where do your products come from?

Our own lavender is grown on our farm in Door County, Wisconsin. Products made by us, such as our single-variety essential oils, culinary buds, Wilder Lavender Simple Syrup and items handmade in our Door County workshops like our lip balm, salve, room spray and insect guard, say so on their product pages. Our shop also carries lavender products and gifts from other makers, and each product page lists the brand.

Do you offer gifts and gift wrapping?

Yes. We offer ready-made lavender gift sets and baskets, gift boxes you can add to an order, and Island Lavender gift cards. To send a gift, enter the recipient's shipping address at checkout.

How can I contact you?
